BEFORE LEAVING CAMPUS

REGISTRATION AND FEES: Register for the co-op course in the Co-op Office, 209 Koldus. Pay tuition and fees prior to leaving campus. Failure to register and pay tuition/fees may result in loss of student status and Co-op position.

UPDATE CAREER CENTER ACCOUNT: Login to your Career Center Account, click on "I've Got a Co-op Job!", choose the semester you'll be working, and enter as much information as you have. BE SURE to enter the work term number (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.) If your company is not in the database, you MUST contact your director. The company will be required to submit information on-line before you can be registered for the co-op course. Other details can be added at a later date.

CONTACT YOUR EMPLOYER: Verify your starting date/time and location.

CO-OP REPORT GUIDELINES: Meet with your Faculty Co-op Advisor to discuss academic requirements. Faculty Co-op Advisors handle all academic issues.

HOUSING:
On-Campus Housing
Students who obtain a residence hall space for the semester after a work term, or cancel the residence hall space and obtain their deposit, must pick up a "save/drop letter" from the Co-op Office. Take the letter to the Housing Office (Legett Hall) within 10 days after accepting a job. Reserving a place for the semester following your work term does not mean reserving a particular hall, room, or roommate. Residence Hall assignments are the responsibility of the Housing Assignments Office.
Off-Campus Housing
Contact the Office of Student Life (979/845-3111, Cain Hall, C114) for information on sub-leasing, return housing, and roommates. Off-campus housing is also available at http://studentlife.tamu.edu/agoss/resources/OffCampus/.

RECEIVE THE BATTALION FREE: Good for one semester only. Contact the Student Publication Office (Room 230 Reed McDonald) or call (979) 845-2611. The Battalion is also available at www.thebatt.com.

FINANCIAL AID: Notify the agency which provides your financial support of your upcoming Co-op work term.

  1. If you are receiving scholarships, grants, or loans through Financial Aid, schedule an appointment with a Financial Aid counselor and provide a copy of your Co-op Degree Plan.
  2. If you are unable to pick up the financial aid disbursements, fill out a request in the Fiscal Office (Room 111 Pavilion, (979) 845-9396) to have the funds mailed to you.
  3. It is your responsibility to inform the source of any scholarships and/or grants not awarded by the university.
If you have a National Merit Scholarship, contact the National Merit Corporation at (708) 866-5100.

SHORT TERM CO-OP LOANS: Short-term loans (up to $800) are available for Co-op students to help pay fees or cover moving costs. A 10% annual service charge will be assessed, and loans must be repaid within four months.

  1. Pick up a verification form from the Co-op Office. Applications are available at the Short-Term Loan Office (Room 230 Pavilion) or on-line at http://faid.tamu.edu.
  2. Return the completed verification form and application to the Short-Term Loan Office or fax it to (979) 862-6807.
Loans take 3 to 5 working days to process. Questions should be directed to the Short-Term Loan Office at (979) 845-3955.

NIGHT CLASS/CORRESPONDENCE COURSE: Students wishing to take a class or correspondence course at another college while Co-oping should:

  1. Discuss the work assignment for the upcoming term with your supervisor to verify that a class will not interfere with Co-op work.
Check with Transfer Admissions to verify that the credit will be accepted. Take course abbreviation and number from the other university's catalog to the General Services Building or call 979/845-7387.
