What Type Would Interest Me?

  1. What is your time frame for an internship experience? In other words, do you want a summer, fall, or spring position? In which academic year(s)?
  2. List all the possible reasons why you want an internship.
  3. What are your skills and abilities? Think of skills you have used in the classroom, special projects, extracurricular activities, or volunteer work (writing, researching, analyzing, coordinating, managing, etc.) This list will help you sell yourself to an employer.
  4. List five of your academic interests. Why have you chosen your major? What type of internship experience would complement or enhance your academic studies?
  5. List five of your personal interests. What do you like to do in your free time? What are some of your favorite experiences?
  6. In what industry or industries do you have an interest (government, high-tech, non-profit, retail, etc.)?
  7. What size company would you choose?
  8. How much time per week are you willing to commit to your internship?
  9. What are your requirements regarding compensation (academic credit or monetary)? Remember, you could always find a part-time job to support your part-time internship.
  10. Do you have certain geographic locations is mind?
