What is an internship?

An internship is a work experience, usually in the summer, related to a student's major or area of interest. In most cases a student will complete only one work term with a given employer. Internships are a good way to gain some experience in your field and see a snapshot of the industry.

Quick FAQs on Internships:

  • May or may not receive academic credit (determined by your major department)
  • One term (normally summer)
  • May be paid or unpaid

Requirements:
Set by your major department and the employer for which you work.

How to get started:
Attend the Internship Search Strategies workshop. Also attend a Career Center Orientation for On-Campus Interviewing to learn about the process for registration and sign-up. Find out more about these workshops on the Career Center calendar.
