Agricultural Science

DESCRIPTION OF TEXAS A&M PROGRAM
There is a great need for teachers of agricultural science on a state and national level.  The agricultural science program allows to student to experience teaching in a high school program of agricultural science.  This assists students in preparing to enter teaching and other related occupations where teaching and “people” skills are needed.  Student teaching is required for graduation as well as for teacher certification in Texas.

Student teaching allows the student to gain practical experience in scientific agriculture, professional education, and classroom management.  The student can be creative in using teaching methods and become experienced in handling challenges facing today’s public schools.  While student teaching, students establish connections with established professionals in the field, often leading to employment upon graduation.  The student teaching semester consists of two phases.  The first phase is six weeks of class work on campus during which students prepare and present lessons while being videotaped.  The second phase consists of actually teaching at an assigned student teaching center under the supervision of both an outstanding agricultural science teacher and a faculty member in the Department of Agricultural Education.  http://www.aged.tamu.edu/students/ugrad_desc.asp
