Applied Mathematical Sciences

The field of mathematics falls into two broad and overlapping categories, namely pure or theoretical mathematics and applied mathematics.  Theoretical mathematicians develop new mathematical principles and examine the relationships between existing principles of mathematics. Applied mathemeticians utilize this basic research to find solutions to problems in a variety of fields, such as economics, science and engineering.   Mathematicians work in a variety of fields because of their highly developed problem solving skills.
