The music major prepares the student for graduate work in music history, theory, composition, or performance, although it does not always lead directly to careers in music. Like other liberal arts majors, it helps students to think critically and imaginatively, to pose new problems and suggest solutions, and to relate ideas in original ways. It may lead to careers as a teacher, performer, composer, computer software developer, music instrument manufacturer, music critic or journalist, music librarian, music therapist, or art administrator.
