- Know your purpose for networking
- Do your homework
- Don’t act desperate
- Remembering that networking is a two-way street
- LISTEN more than you speak
- Respect your contact’s time
- Get permission to use contact’s name when speaking with others
- Be careful as to your use of the word “networking”
- Don’t be pushy and aggressive
- Keep up correspondence with your contacts after you land a job!
- Do not ask for positions or job openings. Rather, ask if they know anyone that might need help.
