Summer work experiences following the Freshman year may or may not be related to the student’s major, but these pre-professional experiences do provide a means of learning skills and responsibility as an employee. They are a way of beginning to build professional contacts that could lead to offers for internships, cooperative education assignments, or even to full-time employment at graduation!
February is the optimal time to begin the summer job search. The job listings binders in the Career Resources Library are a useful resource. If your student is targeting certain companies, they should contact them directly. Career Center staff can assist with finding the right person to talk to within the organization.
