Explore and research majors, careers and employers
This is the step where you will begin to use a variety of resources to find
out more about careers. The Career Center
Library is located in the Career Center in 209 Koldus and is an ideal place
to start researching majors, careers and employers . It provides an
excellent service where career exploration resources, major- related books and
handouts on “What You Can Do With A Major In” and an extensive collection of
employer files and brochures that are helpful for researching career and
employment opportunities are maintained. The career library also has several
publications that will provide knowledge about the structure of the world of
work and the wide variety of occupations available. A database of careers by major is available
online at the Career Center website.
During the fall and spring semester, employers are on campus in search of
perspective employees for their companies. Many of these employers will
schedule an information session, where a representative will speak about the
company’s products and services, the company’s culture and employment
opportunities available and the majors they are seeking to hire.
Students can also explore careers and employers through work-study and
student worker opportunities, summer jobs, internships, cooperative
education, job shadow programs and AggiExternships.
As a result of your exploration and research you begin creating career
connections. This helps you to understand the networking concept, which is a very important job
search and career management tool.
