GPA - What if your GPA is low?
- Focus on a particular part of your GPA that might be more appealing.
- For example, list your major GPA, or GPA for the last 30 or 45 hours of coursework completed, if it is higher.
- By not including it, the employer may assume your GPA is worse than it actually is, and may not even read your resume.
Lack of Experience - What if your work experience is lacking?
- Focus on skills you have gained through other activities such as class projects and student organizations.
References - How do you format an impressive reference list?
- Have a separate sheet of references available, with your name at the top.
- Use the same type of quality paper as with your resume.
- Include 3 - 5 references, including at least one academic and one work-related. Do not use family members, friends, and clergy as references.
- Include the individual's name, job title, company name, address, email, and phone number.
- Ask permission to use people as references and give them a copy of your resume, and cover letter if relevant. This allows them to be informed of your goals and what information the potential employer has seen.
