The Career Center offers resources for all students, regardless of their classification. Freshmen often put off participating in career events because they think they have plenty of time for that in their junior and senior year. You can begin your professional development even as a freshman and you should start planning early if you want to work part-time or do an internship or co-op.
- The SIGI 3 Orientation will introduce you to our online assessment tool to help you identify the major or careers that are the best fit for you.
- AggiExternships allow you to start visiting companies to learn more about them and the work you might do with your particular major. Externships take place in January before the semester starts, so you must sign up in the fall.
- The resume writing workshop is offered several times each semester. You will learn how to prepare a competitive resume for application to student organizations or even for a part-time job while you are a student here at A&M. Learn what skills and experiences an employer considers valuable, so that you can work toward obtaining those in order to be a desirable candidate when the internship, co-op, or full-time search begins.
- Internship Search Strategies teaches you about Career Center resources for finding internships and gives tips on how to network to find internships. Internships are generally in the summer and competition for some is very high. If you are thinking of an internship, start visiting with your Career Advisor at the end of your freshman year to prepare.
- Co-op Orientation is open to anyone who is interested in co-op and is required if you register for the cooperative education program. You will learn the difference between co-op and internship, when you can start, how to prepare and register and much more. If you are interested in co-op, plan to attend an orientation in the fall of your sophomore year to start planning.
- The Sophomore Symposium is a special panel discussion where sophomore-level students will be given sure-fire advice that will put them on the career development fast track.
- Employers visiting TAMU for campus recruiting often host a presentation about their company. This is a GREAT opportunity for you to learn about employers, ask questions, and talk to a variety of representatives in attendance. Think of these opportunities like mini-interviews! So, take a look at our company events listings on our online calendar and make plans to participate.
We have many more workshops that may be of interest to you now or later. Occasionally, special events and panel discussions are planned for topics such as federal employment or working for local government, so check our calendar each semester to see what is coming up. You can get additional information at our Events Calendar.
