Part-time jobs, either while in school or during
summer break, are a great way to start building the basic skills and abilities
that employers will be looking for. Even if a job is not directly related to
your major, you will be demonstrating that you have time management skills and
the maturity needed to get and keep a job. You will also develop important
skills such as leadership, teamwork, communication and problem solving, all very
important to your future employer.
Volunteer work, though not paid, can be just as
important as a part-time job in developing skills and knowledge that will
benefit you. It also demonstrates a commitment to your community, which can be
very important to have on a resume.
