How do I prepare for my search?Preparation is key in helping you get the interview you want. Don't try to create a one-size-fits-all resume. Plan ahead for things like how to dress, how to interview successfully, proper business etiquette, and how to identify key knowledge and skills for your fields of interest.
- Once you have identified the fields you are most interested in, be sure that you have an effective resume. Visit us during walk-in advising hours to polish your resume and to make sure you are highlighting the most relevant skills for the positions you plan to pursue.
- After updating and refining your resume, register with the Career Center's online system, AggieLaunch. AggieLaunch allows you to submit your resume online to employers, provides you with contact information for every employer in the system, gives you access to over a dozen online resources, and gives you a means for managing your job search. You can make an appointment with your Career Advisor, attend a registration orientation or use our Online Tutorial for AggieLaunch to learn how to use this system effectively.
- Take the time to plan your search strategy. Organize a system to keep track of where you submit resumes, who you talk to, contacts you've made, expenses associated with traveling to interviews, etc. Your Career Advisor can help with ideas for how to manage this process effectively.
- Attend workshops like Dress Your Professional Best, Dining Etiquette, Behavioral Interviewing Skills, Salary Evaluation and others that can help you carry out a successful job search.
How do I find opportunities?Networking is key in finding a job. Seventy-five percent of jobs come from personal and business contacts. You have far more contacts than you realize. Use all of these avenues to identify opportunities for full-time employment after graduation. We can help you work out a strategy for effectively using your network.
