    It’s a great idea to write down 6-10 questions to carry with you into the interview. Here are examples of some questions you can ask to gain more insight into an organization that will help you make more informed decisions. When you can, try to personalize each question to the organization and interviewer.


    Questions about job performance

    • How would you describe a typical day on the job?
    • What kinds of assignments might I expect on the first six months on the job?
    • Does your company encourage further education?
    • How often are performance reviews given?
    • When will the first job performance evaluation take place?
    • What is the single largest problem facing your staff or department now?
    • Has there been much turnover in this job area?

    Questions about company

    • Does the company have plans for expansion?
    • What are your growth projections for the next year?
    • Does the company anticipate changing the current structure soon?
    • How does the company view creativity and individuality?
    • How does this company differ from its competitors?
    • Does your company offer either single or dual career-track programs?

    Questions about job position

    • What does the average career path for this position look like?
    • In what ways is a career with your company different than others?
    • Is this a new position or am I replacing someone?
    • When was my predecessor promoted?
    • Do you fill positions from outside or promote from within first?
    • Where does this position fit into the organizational structure?
    • Does your company offer opportunities to incorporate assignments with your international division in the career path?

    Questions about organizational culture and characteristics

    • Could you describe the “ideal candidate” for this position?
    • What do you like most about your job and company?
    • What specific skills or experience would someone have to do well in this position?
    • What characteristics do the achievers in this company seem to share?
    • Will I have the opportunity to work on special projects?

    Questions about the follow-up process

    • What are the next steps in this process?
    • When should I expect to hear from you?
    • Could I contact you for additional questions and the status of my application?
    • May I provide any additional information?
