  • Networking at AT&T Day

    Posted on 10/18/2016 11:45 AM
With AT&T Day coming up, Ags all over are getting their resumes printed ready to go and turning on the charm. Networking is a valuable tool- be it having coffee with a stranger at a local coffee shop or attending a specific network event such as AT&T Day; however, a question always sparked is, “What is the ‘best’ way to network?” A typical misconception in regards to networking is to be as friendly and outgoing as possible; however, in reality companies want to see your personality but also feel confidently you are a professional who could succeed in their company. In preparation for the events coming up, here are a few networking Do’s & Don’ts.
    1. Treat the recruiters like people
When networking, meet these recruiters for honest reasons, not only to win that dream job. Recruiters and associates talk to people all day every day- they are able to tell the genuine people from the “hunters.” Take every meeting to heart and learn something new about everyone. In the end, even if you are not a fit for that particular company, who knows who they can forward your information to.
    1. Know what you have to offer
Be confident in you! You have made it to the best University in the world and are making efforts to score an awesome job- be proud of that. These recruiters want to meet you just as badly as you want to meet them, rehearse your skills and life lessons prior to the events so your leadership and experiences are fresh on your mind.
    1. Don’t be the powerhouse
When in big groups, be willing and able to talk and ask questions; however, do not dominate the conversation so much no one else can get a word in. Think about what you are going to say and speak with purpose- remember, quality over quantity.
    1. Always get contact information
After speaking with someone, make sure you either grab his or her business card, email, or phone number. Following up with details of your conversation will not only increase their memory of you but also show how much you appreciated meeting them. (Not to mention an easy way to send another copy of your awesome resume!)

AT&T Day is a perfect opportunity to test out your new networking skills. The event is Wednesday (10/19) from 4-7 pm in MSC Ballroom 2300 D&E. There will be music, food, prizes, and even a photo booth! Enjoy AT&T executive speakers and get the perfect LinkedIn headshots at the same time. Ms. Reveille will be there around 4:30 so make sure you head out to this event you do not want to miss!
