Ocean engineering is the application of basic engineering principles to the analysis, design, construction, and management of systems that operate in the ocean environment. As such, ocean engineering is a hybrid technical area utilizing techniques from many branches of engineering. The areas of study in the ocean engineering program include fluid mechanics, structural mechanics, ocean wave mechanics, oceanography, geotechnical engineering, coastal engineering, environmental fluid mechanics, marine structures, naval architecture, diving and moored systems, underwater acoustics, laboratory measurements, and ocean engineering design.
