Southwestern Advantage is a challenging, adventurous summer work program for students who want it all: personal growth, excellent training, entrepreneurial experience, career opportunities, money, travel, and a positive impact on families through education.
Our parent corporation, Southwestern, is a global family of companies headquartered in Nashville that range from consulting to finance, real estate, publishing and fundraising. Since 1868, our sales and leadership program has focused on developing university students. The Southwestern Advantage mission is simple: “To be the best company in the world at helping young people develop the skills and character they need to achieve their goals in life.”
This is not a typical internship. Instead of sitting in an office building and watching a professional work, students at Southwestern Advantage are responsible for every aspect of operating a successful business themselves, with an emphasis on consultative selling, in an industry where college students are qualified to consult: education! Students get to live in another part of the country for the summer and learn to run a business through selling educational resources to families in their homes. A student earns, on average, $8,000 their first summer. More importantly, they gain invaluable experience, character development, career opportunities, and many also receive college credit. There is a great deal of responsibility, but also a great deal of training and mentoring throughout.
Students are chosen from all majors, freshmen through graduate students, and must be able to relocate with other Texas A&M students in another state for the summer. Good candidates demonstrate self-motivation, a willingness to be outside their comfort zone, and strong “people skills.”
To learn more about the program, contact Zach Benavidez at 956-205-8502 or zbenavidez@southwestern.com. Information meetings are held periodically on campus. Visit our website at www.SouthwesternAdvantage.com
